Situaded in the Far North of Brazil, in the Brazilian Amazônia, it counts with a population about 2.103.243 hab. (census 1991). The predominant climate is the Hot and humid one, with medium temperature of 32ºC and a rainy period that is going from November to June.

        
Manaus is the entrance Gate for the largest and more exuberant tropical forest of the world, with less than 2% of its desolated native vegetable covering. It has forests of mainland, flooded forest and igapó forest. Due the great biodiversity of its ecosystems, Amazonas have one of the largest concentrations of fauna of the planet, suchas mammals, birds, reptiles and more than 2.000 fish species already studied. The state also possesses most of the indigenous etnias of the country. The folklore, the indigenous craft, the rich gastronomy in tropical fruits and fish of fresh water and the natural medicine are wealthes that compose of the amazonense people patrimony.
